Carlo Riva, founder of the Riva shipyard, is the brains behind the concept of the MonteCarlo Offshorer in the 70s. Shortly after selling Riva to Bertram, Eng. Riva brought back an innovative idea from the United States: the first deep V-step hull, a project that was very innovative because the steps in the hull exerted a certain "lift" effect on the hull, making it faster and lighter on the surface of the water. Bob Hobbs, a visionary mathematician and naval architect who invented the very first V-step hull, ran into major manufacturing problems in South Florida.
