1993 Gib Sea Master 48
I purchased the Gib Sea Master 48, designed by Humphreys Yacht Design (Azure, Oyster, Elan, etc.), in 2010 and loved it dearly. This boat features a sturdy reinforced hull, strong rigging, a cockpit layout suitable for single-handed use, ample storage space, a comfortable cockpit, windward sailing performance, and many other design details that make it stand out. Until 2020, I lived on it for more than six months each year and undertook long voyages (though the definition of long voyages is subjective).
In 2006, a new 100 hp Yanmar engine was installed (currently at 2700 hours). A 3 kW Vetus generator has also been added, along with a 280 cm Joker fiber dinghy and a 6 hp four-stroke Honda engine. All electrical systems, electronics, and sails have been completely renewed (full refit).
Between 2010 and 2020, necessary standard maintenance (hull, sails, rigging, engine) was carried out regularly.
In 2021, the boat was taken ashore at Kalamış Marina for osmosis checks, and the refit was performed again by professional teams.
The deck and cockpit have been resurfaced with 8 mm teak. Two 190-watt solar panels and a Victron BlueSolar MPPT 30 amp have been added. A Victron 60 amp charger was installed, and the batteries were replaced with a 2024 Exide AGM/service battery (dual EP 1500/180 amp), one engine battery (130 amp AGM), and one maneuvering propeller battery (77 amp Exide). The mast was lowered, the shrouds and connections were checked, and the starboard genoa track was replaced. The genoa roller bearings were changed, and the internal wiring and lighting of the mast were renewed; all running rigging was replaced (ropes were imported). The sails were serviced, and roller cars were installed on the mainsail (the sails are in good condition).
Interior woodwork was sanded and varnished; the ceiling panels and linings were replaced, the flooring was re-covered, and fuel and water tanks were cleaned. LED lighting was added. The macerator toilet pump was replaced, and the electric Jabsco toilet at the bow was changed. The 10 mm/100 m galvanized chain was renewed, and the windlass was replaced. The spray hood was renewed, and a Boss audio amplifier and radio were installed. In summary, the total cost of materials and workmanship (excluding labor) is 27,000 Euros.
Don’t let the age of the boat mislead you; it is in better condition and is safer than many high-end sailing yachts.
