The Catana 40S designed by the famous architect Lock Crowther is a fast cruising catamaran known for its lightness, performance and reliability in offshore sailing. With only 4.2 tons of displacement, this model is one of the high-performance catamarans capable of offering excellent speeds under sail while maintaining appreciable cruising comfort.
This 1992 unit has undergone a major overhaul between 2022 and 2024. The work carried out in 2023 is particularly substantial with structural reinforcements on the mast foot, davit supports and hull/nacelle junctions. The stainless steel rigging was also replaced, while the mast and boom were completely reconditioned.
The energy system has been completely modernised with a 1,520 W solar installation consisting of four panels and an 850 Ah lithium battery bank installed in 2023. The whole thing is managed by a complete Victron system including MPPT controllers and 375 W and 3000 W converters. This system ensures significant energy autonomy for life on board.
Water production is provided by a 70-liter per hour Seawater Pro watermaker installed in 2024, supplemented by a rainwater recovery system via the hardtop. The whole allows you to live in total autonomy during long sailings.
The interior layout includes three cabins, including two double cabins and one single cabin. The saloon has been redesigned to offer a modular table that can be transformed into a large bed. A workshop and storage area has also been integrated, practical for long sailing.
The kitchen is equipped with a 12 V fridge freezer, a three-burner gas stove, an induction hob installed in 2021 and a 7 kg washing machine. The mattresses and cushions in the saloon and cockpit were replaced in 2023.
Outside, the cockpit has been fully optimized with a new table, a bespoke Airex hardtop and an extended aft platform incorporating a fishing preparation station. The aluminium davits can store a 2.8-metre Airex dinghy equipped with a 9.8 HP Suzuki engine.
Based in Papeete in French Polynesia and taxes paid, this Catana 40S is an excellent platform for a long-distance cruising or round-the-world program.
